U.S. Army Human Resources Command (HRC)

Short tour (6 months or less) listings on the HRC web site.

Both AC and RC units ask HRC to run these ads for them.

An option is to try contacting the HRC Active Component Career Manager in your branch/MOS (or a closely-related branch/MOS) to ask if they are trying to fill an opening in theater.

WIAS tours (Worldwide Individual Augmentation System)

If you try to log in you will get a message that you aren't registered to use WIAS. That's OK, you don't need to log in. Instead, click on the "Reserve Volunteers" tab on the left hand side. You will see this message on a pop-up:

Tour of Duty website:

"Tour of Duty" is an initiative of the HQDA G3. The idea is that eventually it will become the one-stop shop of all tour listing by all Army organizations (and TPU vacancy openings). Go here to look for long tours (more than 6 months).

Personnel Force Innovation (PFI) Program

An Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) initiative to obtain and place National Guard and Reserve Service Members on active duty tours with Department of Defense (DoD) agencies for one to three years.

Army Mobilization information for your situational awareness:

Word of Mouth

Let all your professional acquaintances know you are looking for a tour. You may hear about a tour through a friend of a friend of a friend.

Employer Partnership of the Armed Forces www.employerpartnership.org This website was established and is maintained by Office of the Chief, Army Reserve, but can be used by Reservists from any branch of the service, as well as Veterans and Retirees. These employers are committed to hiring Reservists. They know you are a Reservist and they are committed to accommodating your military career.

USAJOBS: www.usajobs.opm.gov This is the main federal civilian job bank. There are many, many wanna-be and copy-cat websites that merely lead you right back to USAJOBS or just copy-paste text from USAJOBS.

Civilian Expeditionary Workforce (CEW)

CEW generally takes people who are already in the federal civil service system. However, they do accept people who are not civil servants. You get made a temporary civil servant for the length of the tour. This is NOT a backdoor into the civil service system. To repeat, if you get picked up by CEW, you become a temporary civil servant only for the length of the tour.

The Services

All the services are supposed to list all their jobs on USAJOBS. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. Check the services’ websites in addition to the USAJOBS website. Also, each service has its own application format. You need to create your resume/application at the USAJOBS website plus at all of the services’ websites.
